It is not light weight, but lighter than canvas. I weather proofed it prior, and it poured buckets but didnt leak. I did not think it out with rain and the screened in area which I wish I had. Put a thick tarp over that area and half tent and there were no issues. We were cold 80% of the night since the whole back of the tent to roof is screen minus bottom portion and it was 40°. Very good sturdy tent for summer camping, even in rain(minus porch) kept us dry all night, stayed in place even in the two storms. Easy to put up and take down. Nothing wrong with tent, but side note know that the stakes that come with most tents will not hold, and will pull out of ground in wind. Order some while you are ordering tent, I did and was able to use the others for tarp, and take extra guy line or rope you never know.
