Overall, this is a very good bunk over futon option. It is well built. Very sturdy and I am extremely happy with the purchase. There is a negative side though. The instructions, in my opinion, were lacking major details and information, which caused me to spend 6 hours working on putting this together.
I highly recommend that you plan this out. Open and inspect all the parts. Read through all the directions (all 18 steps) FIRST. It's very important for you to understand what is the top of a piece and what is the bottom. What is the front and what is the back. The instructions don't go over that part. And since many of the parts are interchangeable (in their appearance) and look the same upright as they do upside down . . I found myself very frustated in the end. As I had to dismantle several pieces that I had gotten wrong.
I think if I was a bit more organized going into this, and understood that this could be an issue, I would have been more careful in the build. All in all, I got the job done. I did not give up. 6 hours later (no joke!!!) I had my bunk put together.
It definitely took both my husband and I to build it. I wouldn’t recommend for anyone trying to do a fast set up. Other than that we love it. It’s great having a sitting area in the kids room
I was bit skeptical with this buy until it arrived. Its a huge box and very well packaged. I liked the the thought that the packings does not have styrofoam. The unpacking is easy enough and assembly is as well pretty easy. My kids were helping me unpacking and assembly. Hence I would say the assembly is easy enough to identify the parts and have them put in right place. Only help I needed from another adult was to hold the tall columns standing until I screw them tight.
The size is decent and its sturdy enough to hold 70 LB boy on top bunk and another 45 LBS in lower full size. My wife occasionally sleep on the lower bunk with the younger one. The structure is strong enough to hold the weight. I have not heard any squeaking in the month of usage. One good part is that the lower bunk is high enough to slide down 4 full size bags underneath without anyone recognizing it.
Cons
The accessibility to the far edges of top bunk while changing the sheets. I am taking down the whole mattress, pin down the sheet and then put it back, its way too easy than trying to reach far edges.
The lower bunk feel bit large than the full size. The mattress fits loosely and we need to adjust it every now and then.
Overall, great buy, couldn't expect more for the price tag!!
While putting together the item it was a struggle. We could not fit the frame to go into the slots and we literally had to use a hammer to push down. I would not waste my money on this bed.
Well made product with fair price.
Very good manual. LOTS of pieces. Hundreds. Takes patience to put together.
Some steps like attaching end pieces to frame much easier with two people.
Very clear instruction. Well written but I still made two mistakes which I had to undo. No big deal.
Only supply exactly the number of hardware, screws, nuts etc. Don't drop any or they will end up in the other dimension where socks and sunglasses go!
Broke 3 retainer clips for the slats. Contacted company for replacements which probably cost about $.10 cents but request extraordinary amount of verification: invoice (easy ), picture of bed, pictures of broken clips, sticker on bed...sigh. Anything to NOT provide the pieces under warranty. Doral Home Products should rethink this...

Not for people who don't like putting things together

Granddaughter loves this bed
Although the bed does squeak when my granddaughter gets up and down, it’s not too annoying. She loves her bed.
